Best Pictures from this year
It is always a hard choice to pick the photographs that I like the best of more than 3 or 4 thousand in a year and it is even harder to anticipate what others may like. These are some of my favorites for this year in no particular order.
Other favorites can be found on my site - HERE
Picture 1 -
Dingy, Maracas Beach, Trinidad
Maracas Beach is the most popular beach on the north coast of Trinidad — great food, good stretch of sand, on-site facilities. Famous for it's Bake and Shark. A long drive through very interesting scenery. The image of a lone dingy on a deserted beach was good.
Canon 6D, 40 mm, f16, 1/160 sec, ISO 250
Picture 2 -
Children's Carnival, Port of Spain, Trinidad
With hundreds of colorful costums, it was hard to pick out one that was best. The look exchanged between mother and daughter was special.
Canon 6D, 340 mm, f7.1, 1/400 sec, ISO 320
Picture 3 -
Girl, Carnival Parade, Port of Spain, Trinidad
The long day of festivities and colorful parades had not begun. This girl was walking by to join her group for the parade.

Picture 4 -
White-fronted Capuchin Monkey, Asa Wright Nature Center
When we visited Asa Wright Nature Center last, a troup of Capuchine Monkeys had invaded the area around the lodge. They were very naughty. They stole the fruit left out for the birds and upended the hummingbird feeders to get the sweet sugar surup. But, as they were native to Trinidad as well they were tolerated. This one had just grabbed a piece of watermelon.
Canon 1DX, 400 mm, f5.6, 1/320 sec, ISO 200
Picture 5 -
Male Tufted Coquette, Asa Wright Nature Center, Trinidad
I had often seen them buzzing around the flowers at Asa Wright Nature Center, but usually only in the early morning and never pausing long enough for me to snap a pictue. This male obliged by posing on a branch.
Canon 1DX, 400 mm, f6.3, 1/400 sec, ISO 2000
Picture 6 -
Greater Flamingo, Caroni Swamp, Trinidad
A flock of flamingos has taken up residence in the Caroni Swamp. I had often seen them is zoos, but never before in the wild.

Picture 7 -
A Flock of Scarlet Ibis coming in for their nightly roost, Caroni Swamp, Trinidad
I have gone the the Caroni Swamp to photograph the Scarlet Ibis. Each time I have gotten a bit better at photographing these difficult subjects. Low light and the rapid motion of the flying birds are a chalange to photograph.
Canon 1DX, 400 mm, f5.6, 1/400 sec, ISO 1600
Picture 8 -
Setting Full Moon in April, Trinidad and Tobago Sailing Association Anchorage, Trinidad
I woke up early to photograph what was forcast to be a great full moon. The flight of birds added to the picture.

Picture 9 -
Abandoned Boat, near the Temple by the Sea, Trinidad
We were on one of Jesse's wonderful "Taste of Trini" tours and stopped to visit the Temple by the sea. This abondoned boat on the mud flat caught my eye.

We took a much needed beach trip in the spring. As usual stopped by the overlook before the road decends to Maracas Beach.
